I wrote two new new walking tours this month. The first is W.C. Fields History, which is a one-time event on Saturday, Nov. 19, for Fields Fest. Today is the Ninety-ninth anniversary of the first American soldiers to be killed in combat in World War I. The three became national heroes and their names were printed in newspapers coast-to-coast. I love a good festival. In 1999 my friends and I started the long-running Dorothy Parker-theme Parkerfest. Two years ago I was one of the organizers for the Marx Brothers tribute, Marxfest. It was a big honor for me last month to be the volunteer coordinator for World War I History Day at Governors Island National Monument. I was knocked out when the National Park Service counted more than 12,000 visitors engaged with us for the day. I am happy to announce I’ve added more dates to my fall walking tour schedule. The New York City 1920s Literary Walk, where we begin and end at the Algonquin Hotel, is now offered every Wednesday at 11:00 AM. This schedule accommodates those that have matinee theater tickets. I meant to share this photo on the blog in July, when it was taken. I was invited to attend the ribbon-cutting of The Hills, on Governors Island, on July 19. It was a fantastic event.
