Castle Williams
Castle Williams

I had a lot of fun being a last-minute replacement guest on a great New York City podcast last night, Rediscovering New York. You can watch it here via Facebook Live. The subject was Saboteurs and Spies, and I covered the Civil War in New York as well as WWI and the Black Tom Island explosion in 1916. My fellow tour guide Robert Brenner was also a guest covering WWII and those pesky Nazis in the city. It was a lot of fun. A lot of my Civil War information was from my research for my book The Governors Island Explorer’s Guide, which has the history of Castle Williams, a wartime prison. It is the first (and only) guidebook to the Island, and all other tour guides use it. My book WWI New York: A Guide to the City’s Enduring Ties to the Great War was the basis for my WWI information.

Rediscovering New York is broadcast live on Tuesdays at 7 PM, on talkradio.nyc, as well as on Facebook Live, and also is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Podcasts and other services. Thanks to Jeff Goodman for inviting me to be a guest.
