Margalo Gillmore

Margalo Gillmore

Margalo Gillmore was that rare actress that had a long career, very long, more than 60 years. In her teens she worked in silent pictures, and in the 1950s she was acting on live TV in front of tens of millions in Peter Pan on CBS as Mrs. Darling. Born to actors in London, she grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. Her father, Frank Gillmore, was a founder of Actors Equity, and Margalo was among the first to earn a union card. She married Robert Ross, a fellow actor. When I visited her gravesite in Westchester County, I was touched how simple it is. She’s buried next to her husband and parents.
